We are like Birds

Text and images for my debut picturebook, published by Kumusha Books (2024).

Flor is only seven years old and has moved home three times. Now her family is moving again and she has to start all over again in a new country and a new school.

A lyrical picturebook about moving home, finding new friends and a sense of belonging in a new culture. The perfect, uplifting story for any child who feels like they don’t fit in or who is worried about the prospect of moving country, home or school and having to start over.

Book cover titled 'We are like Birds' by Laila Ekboir shows a family of four walking in a city with colorful buildings and flying birds in the sky. The family includes a man, a woman, and two young girls, all carrying backpacks and rolling suitcases.
A girl in purple top and green pants running with a large, colorful quilt billowing behind her, covered in various small, detailed drawings and patterns.
A family dancing and singing in a living room with children, shelves with books, and a turntable playing music.
Children sitting in a colorful indoor tent, talking and smiling, with a shirtless boy inside the tent, and a cityscape with tall buildings and a street scene outside.
